Ranil and Sajith will decide on the leader

Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa are set to meet soon to discuss who will lead the proposed UNP-SJB coalition, UNP Deputy General Secretary Harin Fernando said yesterday. In response to media questioning, Fernando stated that Wickremesinghe will most likely serve as an advisor.

"He informed the Buddhist clergy that he is no longer actively involved in politics. As a result, it is the case," Fernando stated. He stated that the UNP has proposed forming a joint working committee. "We have put forward some proposals and the ball is now on SJB's court," he informed us.

Furthermore, he stated that a leadership board may be created to administer the UNP.

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa reported successful conversations with UNPers over the weekend, expressing optimism for a successful outcome. SJB General Secretary Ranjith Maddumabandara, UNP Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene, General Secretary Thalatha Athukorale, Vice Chairman Navin Dissanayake, Assistant Leader Akila Kariyawasam, and Sagala Ratnayaka all took part in the deliberations', Premadasa stated in his X message.
