Extremely cold weather and dense fog disrupt life in central hills
Extremely cold and dense fog continue to impact the central hills, disrupting public life and vehicular traffic. For the previous 24 days, the watershed areas on the western slopes of the central hills have had prolonged cold weather and heavy fog, decreasing visibility on important roadways.
The main roads from Hatton to Nuwara Eliya and Hatton to Colombo, as well as other byways, have been particularly hard hit. Hatton Police Division traffic officers have recommended vehicles to travel cautiously, at low speeds, and with their headlights on while traversing these foggy parts.
Furthermore, frost has been reported in various places of Nuwara Eliya, exacerbating the effects of the current cold weather.
Authorities have warned residents and travelers to remain vigilant as these conditions are expected to continue in the coming days
